About this Recovery House

The Phoenix House is a men's sober living home on Northwestern Turnpike in Romney, West Virginia, in Hampshire County. Six men live here at Level 2 certification from the West Virginia Alliance of Recovery Residences, operated by WVCORR.

A Six-Bed Men's Recovery Home in Hampshire County

Six beds makes this the smaller of the operator's two men's residences and the quieter option for a man who does poorly in a larger house. Both sit on the Northwestern Turnpike, the old US 50 corridor through Romney, so a resident who moves between them keeps the same town, the same staff and the same walk to work.

Level 2 Certification in Rural Recovery Housing

Level 2 covers monitored recovery housing with structured expectations and clinical care delivered by outside providers. Certification requires written disclosure of fees and rules before move-in, a written relapse and discharge policy, and complaints reviewed outside the residence. West Virginia has required all recovery residences to register with the state since 2024 and made certification the condition for referrals and public funds.

The Employment-Based Fee

Residents pay $200 a month while working part time, for up to a hundred and eighty days, and $400 a month afterward. Tying the charge to employment status.

Medication Support at This Romney Sober House

Residents on medication for opioid use disorder are accepted at all three of the operator's houses.

Romney, the County Seat and the Potomac Highlands

Romney is the seat of Hampshire County and the oldest town in West Virginia, sitting on the South Branch of the Potomac where US 50 crosses the eastern mountains. It holds the county courthouse and the state schools for the deaf and blind, and Winchester, Virginia, is about forty minutes east. Certified recovery beds are scarce across the eastern mountain counties, so this operator's three houses draw from Mineral, Hardy and Morgan counties as well as Hampshire.
