About this Recovery House

The Staggers Recovery Home is a recovery residence in Keyser, West Virginia, the seat of Mineral County, housing women with their children on Fried Meat Ridge Road. Twenty-five beds are certified at Level 3 by the West Virginia Alliance of Recovery Residences, operated by Burlington United Methodist Family Services.

A Supervised Family Sober Living Home in the Eastern Mountains

Twenty-five beds for women and their children at the second-highest certification level West Virginia recognizes, in a county of about twenty-seven thousand people. Certified family recovery housing is scarce across the whole state and effectively absent from the Potomac Highlands. Mothers leaving treatment in Mineral, Hampshire, Grant and Hardy counties have had almost nothing local until now.

What Level 3 Certification Establishes

Level 3 describes supervised recovery housing with an organizational structure, administrative oversight and structured daily programming. Certification requires the program to publish its rules in writing before entry, hold a written relapse and discharge policy, and accept complaints reviewed outside its own management. Where children live in a residence, that external route carries particular weight.

ADA Accessible Recovery Housing

The residence is ADA accessible, which is rare in West Virginia recovery housing. Most certified homes in the state occupy older housing stock with steps at every door, and a mother with a mobility condition is usually excluded for reasons unrelated to her recovery.

Fees Tied to Employment

A $300 monthly program fee begins once a resident secures employment in Phase II. The operator states that flexibility is available where a resident carries other outstanding debt, and that help is offered in building a financial plan. Addressing arrears.

Keyser, Mineral County and the Potomac Highlands

Keyser is the county seat, sitting on the North Branch of the Potomac River on the Maryland line, home to Potomac State College of West Virginia University. Cumberland, Maryland, is fifteen minutes north and holds the nearest large hospital and much of the region's employment. The eastern mountain counties are rural and thinly served, so a twenty-five bed supervised family residence here draws from a wide area.
