About Burlington United Methodist Family Services
Burlington United Methodist Family Services is a recovery housing provider in Keyser, West Virginia, operating the Staggers Recovery Home, certified sober living for women and children in Mineral County. It is one of very few certified family recovery residences anywhere in the Potomac Highlands.
A Potomac Highlands Recovery Housing Provider
Burlington United Methodist Family Services has worked with children and families in eastern West Virginia for generations, and the Staggers Recovery Home extends that into certified recovery housing for mothers. Mineral County sits on the Maryland line in the eastern mountains, rural and thinly served, with Keyser as its seat. Certified family recovery beds are close to nonexistent across this part of the state.
Certified Recovery Housing for Women and Children
The residence houses women together with their children at Level 3 certification, describing supervised recovery housing with administrative oversight and structured programming. West Virginia removes children into state care at a higher rate than any other state, and the shortage of certified housing that accepts them is part of why. A supervised twenty-five bed family residence is a substantial answer to that in a county of this size.
ADA Accessible Family Recovery Housing
The residence is ADA accessible, which almost no certified recovery housing in West Virginia is. A mother with a mobility condition, or one recovering from an injury, is otherwise routinely excluded from recovery housing for reasons that have nothing to do with her recovery.
Fees That Wait for Employment
A $300 monthly program fee begins once a resident secures employment in Phase II, with flexibility available where she carries other outstanding debt and help offered in building a financial plan. Tying the fee to employment, and addressing existing debt, reflects what actually stands between a mother and stable housing.
Certification and Medication Policy
The residence is certified by the West Virginia Alliance of Recovery Residences, the state's affiliate of the National Alliance for Recovery Residences, and accepts all forms of medication for opioid use disorder.
