The Rock Ministries, Genesis House Men's Recovery House

About this Recovery House

The Rock Ministries Genesis House is a men's recovery residence on Cross Lanes Drive in Nitro, West Virginia, in Putnam County. Thirteen men live here at $125 a week under Level 2 certification from the West Virginia Alliance of Recovery Residences.

A Thirteen-Bed Men's Sober House in Nitro

Genesis House is the larger of the ministry's two residences and sits next door to the Rock House on the same street. Thirteen beds holds a real peer community while keeping the household small enough to know itself. Nitro sits on the Kanawha River where Putnam County meets Kanawha, on the corridor between Charleston and Huntington.

What Level 2 Certification Establishes

Level 2 describes monitored recovery housing with structured expectations, where clinical services come from providers elsewhere in the valley. Certification commits the house to a published code of ethics, written disclosure of fees and rules before move-in, a written relapse and discharge policy, and complaints reviewed outside the household. Church-based recovery housing is widespread in West Virginia and much of it operates without certification, which makes this the distinguishing fact on the listing.

Entry Fee and Weekly Cost

A $300 entry fee at move-in, then $125 a week. The same terms apply at the Rock House next door.

Medication-Assisted Recovery in This Putnam County Recovery Home

Residents on medication for opioid use disorder are accepted at both of the ministry's houses.

Nitro, Putnam County and the Interstate 64 Corridor

Nitro sits on the Kanawha River between Charleston and Huntington, on the Interstate 64 corridor that carries most of southern West Virginia's employment. Winfield is the Putnam County seat, and Charleston, twenty minutes east, holds the courthouse, the family court and the region's hospitals. Living in Nitro puts a resident within reach of two labor markets, which matters in a year when work is the whole point.
