Open Doors Women with Children is a recovery home in Providence, Rhode Island, in Providence County. Open Doors RI opened the house in December 2023 for women and children together.

Housing Mothers and Children Together

Open Doors Women with Children takes women, women with their children, and women working toward reunification with children not yet in their care. Keeping a mother and her children under one roof during recovery removes the choice between a place in recovery housing and staying with a family, which is the reason the house exists.

A House for Justice-Involved Women

Open Doors RI describes Open Doors Women with Children as the only recovery home for women and children in Rhode Island created specifically for justice-involved women. The house belongs to the She Thrives program, which supports women being released from prison as they work toward family reunification. The opening in December 2023 followed a capital campaign backed by the City of Providence, the Rhode Island Department of Housing, United Way of Rhode Island, the Rhode Island Foundation, the Champlin Foundation and the Papitto Opportunity Connection.

Wrap-Around Support

Residents at Open Doors Women with Children receive wrap-around support covering employment, health and housing goals. That sits inside the wider Open Doors RI service base, which provides case management, peer recovery coaching and employment assistance across all of its transitional houses.

Certification and Oversight

RICARES certifies Open Doors Women with Children at NARR Level 3, the supervised level, as women's housing. The certification was first granted in May 2024, months after the house opened, and it is carried on the current RICARES roster. Open Doors Women with Children is one of four Open Doors RI residences that RICARES certifies across Providence and Pawtucket.
