The Second Stage of the 9 Yards Program

Open Doors RI operates two transitional houses for men coming out of prison. The 9 Yards House carries men on parole or probation who need a high level of support immediately after release. 9 Yards Phase II takes the men who have moved beyond that, offering longer-term transitional housing for those with a greater degree of independence. The house is self-pay, which distinguishes it from the grant-funded places in the first-stage house.

Who 9 Yards Phase II Serves

Admission focuses on men released from prison within the previous six months, together with referrals from the Federal Courts and the Federal probation system. That federal referral route is unusual among Rhode Island recovery residences and reflects the reentry mission Open Doors RI has pursued since 2003. Residents receive case management, peer recovery coaching and employment assistance in a structured, supportive and sober setting.

Certification and Level

RICARES certifies 9 Yards Phase II at NARR Level 3, and Open Doors RI states that both of its men's transitional houses are certified through the National Association of Recovery Residences. The house has been carried on the RICARES roster through 2024 and 2026. The 2020 Rhode Island BHDDH public recovery housing list recorded the same Pawtucket house, so it has operated for at least six years.
