About Ed Keating Center
Ed Keating Center is a sober living operator based in Cleveland, Ohio, running recovery housing for men and women across Cuyahoga County.
A Cleveland Recovery Housing Provider
Ed Keating Center is a housing organization first: it supplies structure, peer accountability and a stable address, while medical and outpatient care comes from other providers in the city. The organization was founded in 1998 by Jack Mulhall, Phyllis Eisele-Curran and Dennis Eckersley, three people who had worked together at a Cleveland-area rehabilitation center, and named after Edward J. Keating, a sports agent who overcame his own alcoholism.
Three Sober Homes in Cleveland and Brookpark
The organization runs three residences under its name:
- The New Rock, on Brookpark Road in Cleveland, for men, with room for up to eighty residents.
- East 93rd, on Cleveland's east side, for men in the transitional program, with room for up to one hundred residents.
- Jean Marie House, on Engle Road in Brookpark, for women, with room for up to forty-five residents.
Two of the three sit in Cleveland proper, with Jean Marie House a short distance southwest in Brookpark, keeping the network's transit, courts and outpatient connections in the same corner of Cuyahoga County.
A Two-Stage Program for Men
Men move through the network in stages: an initial three-month Sober Living Program at The New Rock, then transitional housing at East 93rd for those who want continued structure afterward. That progression gives Ed Keating Center sober homes a built-in next step that a single-house operator cannot offer.
Serving Men and Women in Cuyahoga County
Jean Marie House, opened after twenty-five years of running men's housing, is the organization's first dedicated residence for women, sized close to its men's houses rather than as a smaller pilot. Cleveland and Brookpark residents alike can reach any of the three houses without leaving the county's courts, outpatient providers and transit network behind.
A Long-Running Ohio Sober Homes Provider
Now in its third decade, Ed Keating Center has outlasted many newer recovery housing operators in the region, and its founders' own history in Cleveland-area treatment work runs through the organization's approach to structure and accountability.
