About this Recovery House

The Mary and Martha House is a women's sober living home on East 12th Street in Wheeling, West Virginia, the seat of Ohio County. Five women live here under Level 2 certification from the West Virginia Alliance of Recovery Residences, operated by Youth Services System.

A Women's Recovery Home in the Northern Panhandle

Five beds makes this the organization's only women's residence and a meaningful share of the certified women's capacity in Ohio County. Certified beds for women are scarcer than beds for men across all of West Virginia, and the Northern Panhandle has fewer options than the Kanawha or Ohio valleys. East 12th Street sits a block from the operator's men's house, run as an entirely separate household.

What It Costs to Move In

No deposit is required. During the first phase, an unemployed resident contributes seventy-five percent of her SNAP benefits, moving to an income share once she is working. For a woman leaving treatment with no savings, the absence of a deposit is often the deciding factor in whether a certified bed is reachable at all.

Level 2 Certification for Women's Recovery Housing

Level 2 describes monitored recovery housing with structured expectations and clinical services from outside providers. Certification requires written fee and rule disclosure before move-in, a written relapse and discharge policy, a published code of ethics, and complaints reviewed outside the house.

Medication Support for Women in Ohio County

Residents on medication for opioid use disorder are accepted through a provider offering programming. Women on buprenorphine or methadone consistently face the narrowest housing options in the state.

Wheeling, the County Seat and the Tri-State Corner

Wheeling holds the Ohio County Courthouse, the family court, Wheeling Hospital and the transit that serves the Northern Panhandle. The city sits an hour from Pittsburgh, directly across the river from Ohio and a short drive from Pennsylvania, so its labor market and its treatment providers both extend across state lines. For a woman managing a custody case and a job search at once, being in the county seat.
