About this Recovery House

The Lighthouse is a women's recovery residence on North Marsham Street in Romney, West Virginia, the seat of Hampshire County. Twelve women live here under Level 2 certification from the West Virginia Alliance of Recovery Residences, operated by WVCORR.

The Largest Women's Sober House in the Eastern Mountains

Twelve beds makes this the biggest of the operator's three residences and one of very few certified women's houses anywhere in West Virginia's eastern mountain counties. Women leaving treatment in Hampshire, Mineral, Hardy and Morgan counties have almost no local alternative, and the nearest options otherwise sit in Berkeley County or across the line in Virginia. North Marsham Street runs through the residential grid of downtown Romney.

What Level 2 Certification Requires

Level 2 describes monitored recovery housing with structured expectations and clinical services from outside providers. Certification commits the residence to a published code of ethics, to giving an applicant fees and house rules in writing before move-in, to a written relapse and discharge policy, and to a complaint process outside the household. Those obligations matter most where a woman is choosing a residence sight unseen from inside a treatment program.

Fees Tied to Employment

The charge is $200 a month while a resident is working part time, for up to a hundred and eighty days, and $400 a month afterward.

Medication-Assisted Recovery for Women in Hampshire County

Residents on medication for opioid use disorder are accepted. Prescribers in this part of West Virginia concentrate in Winchester and Martinsburg, both roughly an hour from Romney.

Romney and Recovery Housing in Rural West Virginia

Romney is the county seat and the oldest town in the state, sitting on the South Branch of the Potomac on the US 50 corridor. Hampshire County is rural, thinly populated and far from the state's treatment infrastructure, which makes a twelve-bed certified women's residence here disproportionately important to the region it serves.
