About this Sober House

USMC Corporal Andrea T. Ryder Home is set in Woonsocket, Rhode Island, a recovery home for women veterans in Providence County.

A Historic House Brought Back

Operation Stand Down Rhode Island reopened a historic property at 492 South Main Street on 27 November 2023. The house had stood empty; the organization restored it and put it back into use as transitional housing. South Main Street runs through one of Woonsocket's oldest districts, and the building's character survived the conversion.

Named for Corporal Andrea Ryder

The house carries the name of the late Marine Corporal Andrea T. Ryder. The naming is not decoration: the home exists specifically for women who served, a group Rhode Island's veteran housing stock had largely overlooked before this opening.

Transitional Housing for Women Who Served

The USMC Corporal Andrea T. Ryder Home provides transitional housing for homeless women veterans while they work toward self sufficiency. Wrap around services come with the room, covering case management, benefits representation and the practical steps toward independent living.

Woonsocket and the Blackstone Valley

Woonsocket sits at the northern edge of Providence County on the Massachusetts line, in the Blackstone Valley. It is one of the few Rhode Island cities outside the Providence core with an established recovery housing presence, and this home adds a women veterans option to it.
