Four Sober Living Homes in Eddy County
The sober living program is more than one house. LifeHouse runs a men's home in Carlsbad, a women's home in Carlsbad, a home for women with their children in Carlsbad, and a men's home in Artesia to the north. Splitting by gender and by family status means house rules, sleeping arrangements and daily rhythm are written for one population at a time, and a woman does not have to choose between a bed and her children.
What Living in This Carlsbad Recovery Home Costs
Housing is $135 a week and food is $35 a week, paid by the resident. The program is self-pay and insurance does not cover it. That structure is deliberate. Residents begin paying for their own housing and food, care for the home and cook their own meals, which is the rehearsal for the budget they will keep afterward. The commitment is six months, and a resident may stay as long as the need lasts.
House Managers and Peer Support in Sober Living
Every home is overseen by a house manager who is also a peer support worker. Residents meet with their peer support worker one to one and in groups on a regular schedule. Combining the two roles has a practical effect: the person enforcing the rules is the same person a resident talks to about why the week went badly, and that person has been through it. Residents work on managing money, nutrition, holding a job and the rest of the ordinary skills that come apart during active addiction.
A Full Continuum Behind the Recovery Housing
LifeHouse operates medically managed detox, residential treatment, intensive outpatient, assertive community treatment, counseling, case management and medication services in Carlsbad, with additional programs in Roswell and Taos. A resident moving into sober living stays inside the same organization that handled withdrawal and treatment, keeping the same clinicians and the same records. New Mexico certifies no recovery residences, so an operator's clinical infrastructure is one of the few things a family can evaluate from outside.
Eddy County Sober Living in the Pecos Valley
Carlsbad is the county seat of Eddy County, in the Pecos Valley on the western edge of the Permian Basin. Oil and gas set the rhythm of the local economy and of the local drug problem, and the money that arrives with a boom is a hazard for someone six weeks sober. Housing costs rise fast here when the rigs are running, which is exactly when a fixed weekly rate matters most. The courthouse, the hospital and the outpatient providers are all inside the city, and a resident without a car can reach them.
