About this Recovery House
The H.O.U.S.E. – Wheelan is a coed recovery home in Webb City, Missouri, in Jasper County, run by The H.O.U.S.E., Inc. as part of a group of sober living houses serving the Joplin area since 1996.
A Webb City Sober House for Men and Women
The Wheelan house is coed, and a resident should picture that accurately before applying. Kitchen, laundry, living room and house meeting are shared. One curfew and one chore rotation cover the whole house. People who thrive in that setting tend to be past the first raw weeks and looking for a stable address with company in it. People who want the narrower, single-gender version of the same thing are better served asking the operator what else is open.
A Long-Running Southwest Missouri Recovery Housing Operator
Thirty years is a long time in this business. The H.O.U.S.E., Inc. started in 1996 and has kept houses open through the entire opioid era in a corner of the state that has been hit hard by it. Longevity is a real signal in recovery housing, where houses open and close inside a single lease. It tells an applicant that the organization has weathered turnover, funding gaps and neighborhood pressure and still has beds.
Structure Inside The H.O.U.S.E. Recovery Homes
The model is peer-run and deliberately unclinical. Residents work, look for work or attend a program during the day, come back to the same house at night, and answer to the people they live with. Treatment happens elsewhere. What the house supplies is the part that treatment cannot: the twenty hours a day between appointments, spent somewhere with no drugs in it and other people watching.
Jasper County Geography and Daily Life
Webb City sits on Route 171 between Joplin and Carthage, which puts almost everything a resident needs inside a short drive. Joplin carries the hospitals, the community college and the university, the outpatient behavioral health providers and most of the region's jobs. Carthage, the county seat, holds the courthouse. Route 66 runs through Webb City itself, and the commercial strip along it supplies the retail and food service shifts that fill first paychecks.
Before You Apply to This Recovery Residence
Placement decisions are made by the operator, not by the house. Ask what the deposit and weekly fee are, whether medication for opioid use disorder is permitted, how bedrooms are assigned, and what the house expects in the first month. Accreditation through the Missouri Coalition of Recovery Support Providers is voluntary in this state, so what a house tells an applicant in writing carries the weight.
