About this Recovery House

Sunshine House is a men's sober living home in Kansas City, Missouri, in Jackson County, operating since 2005 under Healing House KC. It is the second house the organization ever opened, three years after its founding in 2002, and it now houses thirteen men at a time, the largest men's population among Healing House KC's earlier properties.

A Men's Recovery Home with Two Decades of History

Sunshine House has run continuously since 2005, which puts it among the more established sober living homes in Kansas City. Thirteen men live there under Healing House KC's house rules, and the size of the household means staffing and structure that a smaller two- or three-bed home cannot support: a live-in presence, group accountability, and enough peers going through the same early stretch of recovery that nobody is doing it alone.

Missouri's Voluntary Certification Standard

Missouri does not require a recovery residence to certify with anyone. The Missouri Coalition of Recovery Support Providers runs the state's voluntary accreditation program as the NARR affiliate, and a house that opts in commits to a published code of ethics, written disclosure of fees and rules before move-in, and a complaint process that reaches outside the house itself. Healing House KC holds both NARR accreditation and Missouri Department of Mental Health certification, which is more oversight than the state's own rules demand of standalone sober housing.

Kansas City Sober Living in Jackson County

Kansas City is the seat of activity for Jackson County and the regional hub for employment, treatment providers and public transit in western Missouri. A resident at Sunshine House is inside the same city as the courts, outpatient clinics and job market that most Jackson County recovery housing depends on.

Part of Healing House KC's Kansas City Portfolio

Sunshine House is one of nine men's homes Healing House KC runs in Kansas City, a portfolio that also includes six women's residences and three supportive apartment buildings. The organization has added a house nearly every year since 2002, and that growth means a man who outgrows Sunshine House's structure, or simply needs a change of scenery, can move within an organization that already knows him.

Getting Into a Kansas City Recovery Home

Healing House KC places residents across its full network. Anyone considering Sunshine House should ask the same questions that apply to any MCRSP-certified sober living home: the weekly fee, whether a manager lives in the house, the relapse and discharge policy, and whether medication-assisted recovery is supported. An organization two decades into running men's housing in Kansas City has settled all four.
