About this Recovery House

Purple House is a women's sober living home in Kansas City, Missouri, in Jackson County, operating since 2004 under Healing House KC. It is the organization's second property, opened two years after its 2002 founding, and it holds twelve women at a time, the largest women's household among Healing House KC's earlier houses.

An Established Women's Recovery Home

Purple House has run for more than two decades, making it one of the longer-standing sober living homes for women in Kansas City. Twelve women live there under Healing House KC's shared house structure, a household large enough to support a live-in presence and enough peers at similar points in recovery that isolation is not the default.

Missouri's Voluntary Certification Standard

Missouri imposes no legal requirement that a sober living home certify with anyone, and the Department of Mental Health's licensure covers clinical treatment, leaving standalone recovery residences. The Missouri Coalition of Recovery Support Providers runs the voluntary accreditation program as the state's NARR affiliate, obligating a participating operator to a written code of ethics, disclosed fees and rules before move-in, and an outside complaint process. Healing House KC holds NARR accreditation and Missouri Department of Mental Health certification, well beyond what Missouri's own rules require.

Women's Recovery Housing in Jackson County

Kansas City anchors Jackson County's employment, transit and outpatient treatment capacity, and a resident at Purple House is close to all three without depending on a car. That access is part of why Healing House KC has kept its growing network inside city limits, close to that infrastructure.

Part of Healing House KC's Kansas City Portfolio

Purple House sits inside a network of fifteen residences, six of them for women, ranging from this twenty-year-old house to a home added in 2024 for mothers with a child. A woman who needs a different setting or a lighter level of structure has other options inside the same organization to raise with staff who already know her.

Applying to Purple House in Kansas City

Healing House KC manages applications and placement across its full network as a single intake. The organization's certification history means it owes applicants the disclosures any MCRSP-certified Missouri sober living home owes: cost, house rules, the relapse and discharge policy, and its approach to medication-assisted recovery.
