About this Sober House
Pathways Morehead Inspiration Center is a long-term recovery home for men in Morehead, Kentucky, in Rowan County. It sits along US-60 on the west side of town and is one of two residential recovery programs that Pathways, Inc. runs for adult men in eastern Kentucky.
A Men's Recovery Home on US-60
The Inspiration Center serves adult men only, and Pathways built it around long stays: residents typically stay nine to twelve months, well past a short detox window. Morehead's US-60 corridor runs straight through downtown, putting the center within reach of Rowan County's courts, outpatient clinics and Morehead State University without requiring a car from day one.
A Four-Phase Peer Recovery Model
Pathways structures residency in stages that build toward independence:
- An initial stabilization stage focused on assessment and a structured daily routine.
- Motivational tracks that add responsibility, off-site meetings and accountability checks.
- A recovery phase centered on addiction education, social skills and steady work toward self-sufficiency.
- A transitional phase where residents take on staff-support roles or outside employment while still living at the center.
Rooms shift from shared to more private arrangements as a resident advances, which gives the program a visible incentive structure instead of a flat set of rules that apply the same way on day one and month ten.
CARF Accreditation and What It Covers
The Inspiration Center carries accreditation from CARF International, the same body that accredits outpatient and residential treatment programs nationally. CARF accreditation reviews staffing, safety and program outcomes on a multi-year cycle, a different kind of review than Kentucky's recovery-residence certification, and it speaks to the clinical side of the program instead of the housing side.
Kentucky's Certification Requirement for Recovery Housing
Separately, Kentucky law requires certification for recovery residences through the Kentucky Recovery Housing Network, and since 2024 that certification is what allows a court or a state agency to refer someone to a house at all. A resident or family evaluating a long-term program in Morehead should ask how a given center's accreditation and certification line up, since the two are not the same thing.
Pathways, Inc. in Eastern Kentucky
Pathways is a community behavioral health provider that has served eastern Kentucky since 1967, and the Morehead Inspiration Center is one piece of a much larger network of outpatient offices and residential programs the organization runs across the region, including a second men's recovery home in Grayson.
The 12 steps with Recovery
The Morehead Inspiration Center serves a population of 100 adult men and offers four levels of recovery which incorporate a social model of recovery, peer support, accountability, daily living skills, job responsibilities, and practical living experiences.
Morehead Inspiration Center incorporates the 12 steps with Recovery Dynamics classes, and life skills classes to educate the addict/alcoholic about their disease.
Transitional Program:
At this phase, the resident may become an Assistant Staff for clients in the motivational or recovery phase of the program or may seek employment in the community while continuing to reside in the facility.
