About this Recovery House

New Beginnings of Tampa is a coed sober living home on East Chilkoot Avenue in Tampa, Florida, in Hillsborough County, run as an outreach of New Life Church Tampa.

A Coed Transitional Housing Program in Tampa

New Beginnings of Tampa houses unaccompanied men and women eighteen and older in separate living arrangements under one program, built around the idea that a safe, stable place to live is the foundation everything else gets built on. The church-affiliated model puts New Beginnings closer to a transitional housing ministry than a standard clinical sober house, though the day-to-day goal, staying substance-free while rebuilding a life, is the same.

Education and Employment as the Focus

Residents work toward completing their education and building employment skills as a core part of the program, with GED preparation and vocational training available on site. That focus on independent living skills sets New Beginnings apart from a house that only supplies a bed and a curfew: the goal is a resident who leaves with a diploma, a trade skill or a stronger resume, not just a longer stretch of sobriety.

Help With the Paperwork Recovery Depends On

New Beginnings of Tampa assists residents with identification documents, SNAP benefits and healthcare enrollment, the kind of paperwork that quietly derails a lot of early recovery when nobody helps sort it out. Getting an ID replaced or benefits reinstated can be the difference between someone staying housed and falling through a gap most sober houses never touch.

Sober Living Certification in Florida

Florida certifies recovery residences through the Florida Association of Recovery Residences, the only credentialing body the state's Department of Children and Families has approved for this purpose. Certification is voluntary, so anyone considering New Beginnings of Tampa should confirm its current status directly with the program.

Tampa and Hillsborough County Recovery Housing

Tampa is the seat of Hillsborough County and the largest city in the Tampa Bay area, with the community colleges, vocational programs and job market that make New Beginnings' education-and-employment focus realistic for residents who stay.

More on the Sober House Our main campus and satellite locations are situated in the North Tampa/University Area providing a 150-bed capacity. Upon admission, most clients are facing immediate, critical needs for safe & clean shelter, nutritious food, and adequate clothing.   Additionally, clients frequently face imminent legal, medical, and/or mental health issues.  All of these needs are assessed during the intake process and a plan of care is jointly developed by the client and his/her case manager. Each client is provided with housing in a clean, air-conditioned, substance/alcohol-free environment that is highly structured.
