The Nextep

About The Nextep

The Nextep is a Southwest Florida outpatient treatment and recovery-housing provider based in Fort Myers, operating twelve sober living homes across Fort Myers, Cape Coral and Naples for men and women in recovery.

A Southwest Florida Sober Living Operator

The Nextep pairs an outpatient treatment program, including partial hospitalization, intensive outpatient care and medication-assisted treatment, with a network of recovery residences that house roughly ninety-eight residents at a time. The housing side exists to give a resident a stable, structured address while the clinical side handles counseling and medical care, and the organization has staff with a combined total of more than 120 years of experience in addiction treatment.

Serving Fort Myers, Cape Coral and Naples

The Nextep runs six recovery residences in Fort Myers, two in Cape Coral and two in Naples, split between men's and women's houses:

  • The Nextep – 8401 Cypress Lake Drive, in Fort Myers, for women.

The Fort Myers cluster is the largest, reflecting the city's role as the seat of Lee County and the region's service hub, while the Cape Coral and Naples houses extend the same model across the Caloosahatchee River and south into Collier County.

Serving Men and Women Across a Four-Stage Model

Every Nextep residence is single-gender, and the organization runs its houses on what it calls a four-stage self-empowerment process built on structure, commitment, motivation and service. Residents keep a weekly chore rotation, attend a minimum number of 12-step meetings, hold to a curfew, and stay financially self-supporting through work, an active job search, or school. The model is designed as a roughly six-month bridge from early recovery to independent living.

An Outpatient Treatment Provider Behind the Housing

The Nextep's clinical program includes high-intensity outpatient care, standard intensive outpatient treatment, mental health services, medication-assisted treatment and experiential therapies such as EMDR, and it accepts most major commercial insurance. That combination means residents in Nextep housing are not left to find outside treatment on their own if they need it, and the organization's outpatient program has earned accreditation from the Joint Commission, a national healthcare accrediting body distinct from residence certification.

Voluntary Certification for Florida Sober Homes

Florida's recovery residences certify voluntarily through the Florida Association of Recovery Residences, the state's affiliate of the National Alliance for Recovery Residences, and DCF has approved FARR as the only body that can grant it. Certification status can change from one residence to the next and over time, so anyone evaluating a specific Nextep house should confirm its current status directly with the operator.

One Application, Twelve Recovery Homes

Applying through The Nextep means being considered for whichever of its twelve houses fits best, before committing to one address. A resident who needs to change houses later, for scheduling, structure, or simply a fresh setting, is working with an operator who already has that history.
