Michael J. Dias Foundation
About Michael J Dias Foundation (MJD Foundation)
The Michael J Dias Foundation (MJD Foundation) is a Massachusetts sober living operator based in Springfield, running recovery housing across Hampden County and the wider Pioneer Valley. Michael Dias's family founded the 501(c)(3) nonprofit in 2011, and it has grown into three sober-living residences in Springfield and Ludlow.
A Springfield Recovery Housing Provider
The Foundation runs housing. Its three residences supply structure, peer accountability, and a stable address, while residents keep their own outpatient providers for anything clinical. Robert Jaszek serves as the Foundation's day-to-day contact for all three houses.
Serving Springfield and Ludlow
Three sober living homes carry the Michael J Dias Foundation name:
- Michael's House, on Buckingham Street in Springfield, for men.
- Christian and Brian's House, on Mill Street in Springfield, for men.
- Sean's Place, in Ludlow, for men.
Two houses sit in Springfield's Forest Park area and the third is in Ludlow, a short drive east. All three serve men only.
A Founding Story Behind Each House
Each residence is named for someone the Foundation lost to addiction. Michael's House, established in 2014, was the Foundation's first house and honors Michael J Dias himself. Sean's Place, opened in 2019, is named for Sean Wilczynski of Ludlow. Christian and Brian's House, acquired in 2020, honors Christian Diaz and Brian Metzger, two friends who both died of addiction-related causes in the Forest Park neighborhood they called home.
MASH Certification and a Transitional Program
Michael's House and Christian and Brian's House are both certified through the Massachusetts Alliance for Sober Housing. Sean's Place works differently: it is reserved for men who have already completed a MASH-certified Michael J Dias Foundation house and are ready for a lighter, self-governing level of structure, a bridge to independent living.
Building Toward a Women's Recovery Residence
The Foundation currently serves men only, but it is running a capital campaign toward its first women's recovery residence, with more than $310,000 raised toward a $500,000 goal at last report. That would extend the organization's Pioneer Valley footprint to women in recovery for the first time.
Recovery Housing for the Pioneer Valley
Springfield is Hampden County's seat and the commercial center of Western Massachusetts, and the Foundation's houses sit inside that service area alongside outpatient providers, courts, and community colleges a resident might need during recovery. The organization describes its reach as extending across Western Massachusetts, including both Hampden and Hampshire counties.
