The Foundation's Original Sober House

Established in 2014, Michael's House was the Michael J Dias Foundation's first residence and remains its flagship. It serves men 18 and older, and the Foundation reports it has built a strong reputation in the Pioneer Valley community over more than a decade of operation.

What MASH Certification Establishes

Certification through the Massachusetts Alliance for Sober Housing, the state's affiliate of the National Alliance for Recovery Residences, requires a published code of ethics, written disclosure of fees and house rules before move-in, a written relapse and discharge policy, and an outside complaint process. MASH certifies under NARR Level II, meaning peer-managed housing with a monitored structure and a house manager on site.

A 12-Step Program With Daily Structure

Michael's House embraces the 12 steps of recovery, and residents follow a structured daily schedule that includes education groups and personal mentoring from peers further along in recovery. Every applicant undergoes a comprehensive 13-panel drug test at check-in.

The city's concentration of outpatient providers, courts, and job opportunities gives residents a full range of services without leaving Springfield.

Michael's House anchors a Michael J Dias Foundation network that also includes Christian and Brian's House, elsewhere in Springfield's Forest Park neighborhood, and Sean's Place, a transitional residence in Ludlow reserved for men who have completed a certified Foundation house.
