Light House Sober Living
About Light House Sober Living
Light House Sober Living is a sober living operator in Port Clinton, Ohio, running certified recovery housing across Ottawa County.
An Ottawa County Recovery Housing Provider
The organization began in 2012, when Judge Bruce Winters and a group of community leaders organized under Leadership Ottawa County to build the area's first sober living community. The group reorganized as Light House Sober Living in 2014 and bought its first property, a former church, the following year.
Three Homes in Port Clinton
Light House Sober Living runs three certified residences:
- The Men's House, on East 5th Street.
- The Women's Home, in Port Clinton.
- A newer men's property on Fulton Street, added to expand capacity for men further along in recovery.
Keeping all three inside one small city means a resident who needs a different house, or a different level of structure, can move between them without leaving the community, the caseworkers or the 12-step meetings they already know.
Serving Men and Women in Recovery
Both the Men's House and the Women's Home are single-gender, and the newer Fulton Street property continues the men's program for residents who no longer need the Men's House's level of structure. Rent is charged per day rather than a flat monthly fee, which lets a resident's cost track the length of their stay.
Certified Through Ohio Recovery Housing
The Men's House carries Managed-level certification from Ohio Recovery Housing, the state's NARR affiliate. Certification commits the operator to a published code of ethics, written disclosure of fees and rules, and a complaint process outside the house.
Recovery Housing for Ottawa and Erie Counties
Light House Sober Living serves residents from Ottawa and Erie counties, and Port Clinton's position as the Ottawa County seat puts the organization's houses near the courts, employers and treatment providers both counties rely on.
