About this Recovery House
Light House Sober Living is a men's sober living home in Port Clinton, Ohio, in Ottawa County, certified at the Managed level.
A Men's Sober House in a Former Church
This sober house in Port Clinton occupies a former church building the operator purchased and converted in 2015, and it now houses roughly ten men in recovery. The address sits inside Port Clinton's residential core, within walking distance of downtown and the lakefront.
What Managed Certification Establishes
Ohio Recovery Housing certifies this house at the Managed level, one step above a peer-run home. A Managed certification means the house keeps a level of staff oversight beyond residents running the household themselves, alongside the disclosures every certified house makes: a published code of ethics, written fees and rules before move-in, and a complaint process outside the house. Ohio Recovery Housing is the state's affiliate of the National Alliance for Recovery Residences.
One of Three Light House Sober Living Homes
Light House Sober Living operates three certified residences in Port Clinton: this Men's House, a women's home, and a newer property on Fulton Street the operator opened to expand its men's capacity. All three sit inside the same small city, so a resident who transfers between them keeps the same caseworkers and community connections.
Recovery Housing in Ottawa County
Port Clinton is the Ottawa County seat, and Light House Sober Living grew out of a county-led effort, organized under Leadership Ottawa County, to build the area's first sober living community starting in 2012. A men's recovery home here sits inside that same local network of courts, employers and treatment providers that the county seat concentrates.
Services provided in the sober home center around providing assistance in gaining access to local resources, including employment, physical and mental health needs, transportation, parenting, education, and ongoing recovery services. Staff and volunteers provide ongoing support and guidance in these areas. Â They also teach sober living residents skills related to daily living, such as cooking, exercising, cleaning, and budgeting.
