Butte SPIRIT Center
About Butte SPIRIT Center
Butte SPIRIT Center is a sober living operator in Butte, Montana, running three recovery homes in Silver Bow County under the name Butte SPIRIT Homes. SPIRIT stands for Silver Bow Persons Invested in Recovery and Inner Transformation. The nonprofit opened its first house in December 2020 and has added a home roughly every eighteen months since.
Three Butte Sober Homes and Where They Are
- The Men's Recovery Home, on West Daly Street in Butte, eight beds, licensed at ASAM Level 3.1.
- The Women's Recovery Home, on Greenwood Avenue East in Butte, eight beds, licensed at ASAM Level 3.1.
- The Men's Step-Down Home, on West Galena Street in Butte, eight beds, certified by Recovery Access Montana.
All three sit inside one consolidated city and county, which means a resident who changes houses keeps the same court, the same providers, the same bus routes and the same employer.
Clinical and Peer-Run Recovery Housing Side by Side
Two of the houses are state-licensed as Clinically Managed Low-Intensity Residential service providers, ASAM Level 3.1, and deliver counseling, therapeutic groups and case management inside the residence. The third is deliberately non-clinical: no curfew, no sign-in, residents governing themselves through community agreements. Running both models under one organization means the operator can move a resident down a level of structure without moving him out of the network he has built.
Licensing and Certification Across These Recovery Homes
The step-down home is certified by Recovery Access Montana. Certification is voluntary in Montana, and it commits a residence to a published code of ethics, written disclosure of fees and rules, a written relapse and discharge policy, and complaint review from outside the house. The two clinical homes carry a state residential treatment license instead, which is a different instrument answering a different question. Montana separately requires every recovery residence to register with the Department of Public Health and Human Services. Certification is granted residence by residence, so a prospective resident should confirm the specific house.
One Application, Three Sober Houses
Applications go through the organization itself, and a clinical assessment determines which house fits. The monthly rate is $650 across all three homes, and the difference between them is the deposit structure and the level of clinical involvement. A man completing the clinical program with six months of sobriety behind him can apply to the step-down home, and residents who finish all three phases of the clinical program and give notice receive a $200 discharge incentive.
Recovery Housing for Southwest Montana
Butte draws from a service area much larger than the city. It preferences residents from Silver Bow and adjacent counties while remaining open statewide, and people leaving treatment in Dillon, Anaconda, Deer Lodge and Whitehall commonly have no gender-specific bed closer to home. The city holds St. James Healthcare, Montana Technological University, the district court and the entry-level employment that a resident needs within the first month, all at the junction of Interstates 15 and 90.
Who These Butte Recovery Homes Are For
The clinical houses suit someone who needs treatment and housing in the same building and can hold a job within four weeks of admission. The step-down home suits someone with at least six months sober who wants a stable, self-governed household and about thirty-two hours a week of work, school, volunteering or treatment. Anyone needing medical supervision belongs at a higher level of care first. Financial assistance for a first month exists for residents who qualify, and third-party payers are accepted in some cases.
