About this Sober House
Butte SPIRIT Women's Recovery Home is a women's sober house on Greenwood Avenue East in Butte, Montana, in Silver Bow County. It opened in December 2023 and holds eight beds. Like the organization's men's house, it is licensed by the State of Montana as a Clinically Managed Low-Intensity Residential service provider at ASAM Level 3.1.
Women's Recovery Housing on Greenwood Avenue East
Eight women live here at a time, in a mix of private and shared bedrooms, with staff on site twenty-four hours a day and every household basic supplied. The house opened because Butte had almost no women-specific beds, and the count is deliberately small. A woman moving in is joining a household, not a facility, and the size is what makes the peer accountability in it work.
Programming Built for Women in This Sober Living Home
The clinical program is the same ASAM 3.1 model the men's house runs, and the content is written for women. Groups address trauma, parenting and the economic barriers that follow women out of treatment, all of which decide whether a woman keeps housing in the year after she leaves. Residents work an individual treatment plan with an assigned counselor, complete a minimum of six hours of structured recovery activity each week, and progress through phases that loosen restrictions as they go.
What Living in a Clinical Recovery Residence Costs
The monthly housing fee is $650, due one week before the end of each month, with a $200 admission fee on top of the first month for a total of $850 at move-in. Meals are covered through the first month. Financial assistance for that first month is available to residents who qualify, and third-party payers are accepted in some cases. Residents who finish all three phases and give three weeks' notice receive a $200 discharge incentive when they move out.
Why Women's Sober Houses Are Scarce in Southwest Montana
Recovery housing in this part of the state is thin, and women's beds are the thinnest part of it. Butte is the largest city between Bozeman and Missoula, and women leaving treatment in Dillon, Anaconda, Deer Lodge and Whitehall commonly have no gender-specific option closer to home. Eight beds in Silver Bow County is a meaningful share of what exists, which is why applications are worth submitting early.
Applying to This Butte Recovery Home
Applications go through Butte SPIRIT Homes and run through a clinical assessment, since admission to an ASAM 3.1 residence turns on level of care. Worth asking on the call: what the assessment involves, how quickly a bed is likely to open, whether medication prescribed for opioid use disorder is accepted, and how the phase system affects curfew and visits. Montana requires every recovery residence to register with the Department of Public Health and Human Services, so registration is a fair thing to ask about as well.
