About this Recovery House

Appalachian Behavioral Health Center is a women's recovery residence on Lincoln Drive in South Charleston, West Virginia, in Kanawha County. Eight women live here at $77 a week under Level 4 certification from the West Virginia Alliance of Recovery Residences, open only to women who have completed the organization's licensed treatment program.

A Level 4 Women's Sober Living Residence in the Kanawha Valley

Level 4 is the highest tier West Virginia certifies, describing service-provider housing with clinical or credentialed staff on site and structured daily programming. Very few certified residences in the state hold it, and fewer still serve women. Eight beds at this level in Kanawha County is a small number set against a real need.

What the Admission Rule Sets

Admission is restricted to women who have completed the organization's licensed treatment program. Everyone in the house has been through the same clinical course with the same staff, which is what allows the residence to run a structured daily program.

What Residents Pay

No deposit is required and the charge is $77 a week. For clinically staffed housing at the state's highest certification level, that is a strikingly low figure, and the absence of a deposit removes the entry barrier for a woman coming straight out of treatment.

Medication-Assisted Recovery in This South Charleston Recovery Home

All types of medication for opioid use disorder are accepted. With treatment and housing under one organization, a resident's medication is part of the same plan as her address.

South Charleston, Kanawha County and the Valley

South Charleston sits across the Kanawha River from Charleston on the industrial corridor running west toward Dunbar and Institute, minutes from the state capital by road or by Kanawha Valley Regional Transportation. Charleston holds the county courthouse, the family court and Charleston Area Medical Center. Kanawha County carries more certified recovery housing than any other county in West Virginia, and this residence sits at the most intensive end of it.
