Appalachian Behavioral Health Center

About Appalachian Behavioral Health Center

Appalachian Behavioral Health Center is a recovery housing provider in the Charleston area of West Virginia, running two certified women's residences on Lincoln Drive in Kanawha County. Both are attached to the organization's licensed treatment program, and both admit only women who have come through it.

A Treatment-Linked Recovery Housing Provider

Most recovery housing in West Virginia operates independently of clinical treatment. These two residences work the other way: admission runs through the organization's own licensed program, which means a woman moves from treatment into housing without a handoff to a stranger and without a gap where she has nowhere to go. That gap is where a large share of relapses happen.

Appalachian Behavioral Health Recovery Homes

  • A five-bed women's residence at Level 3 in Charleston, admitting women through the organization's licensed treatment.
  • An eight-bed women's residence at Level 4 in South Charleston, open only to women who have completed that treatment.

Level 3 and Level 4 Sober Living

Level 4 is the highest tier West Virginia certifies, describing service-provider housing with clinical or credentialed staff on site and structured daily programming. Level 3 describes supervised housing with administrative oversight and structured programming. Very few operators in the state hold either, and holding both means this organization covers the most intensive end of the certified recovery housing spectrum.

Women's Recovery Housing in the Kanawha Valley

Both residences serve women. Thirteen high-support certified beds for women in Kanawha County is a meaningful share of the state's capacity at those levels, and the population it serves, women leaving licensed treatment who need continued clinical structure, has the fewest options of anyone.

Certification and Medication Policy

Both residences are certified by the West Virginia Alliance of Recovery Residences, the state's affiliate of the National Alliance for Recovery Residences, and both accept all forms of medication for opioid use disorder.
