Harris House Coed Recovery House

8315 S Broadway, St. Louis, Missouri, 63111

About this Recovery House

Harris House is a sober living home in St. Louis, Missouri, an independent city that serves as its own county seat. It runs a Transitional Housing program with separate residences for men and women, offering subsidized housing for up to a year to people who have completed the organization's inpatient treatment or arrive otherwise ready for structured recovery housing.

A Sober House With a Year-Long Runway

A year is a long window compared to the typical thirty- or ninety-day sober living stay, and that length is the point. Harris House's transitional program is built for someone who needs time to find steady work, rebuild credit and save toward independent housing, beyond simply detoxing and moving on. Separate men's and women's residences mean shared space, house meetings and accountability structures are built for one population at each address.

Residential Recovery Housing, Not Just Treatment

Harris House is best known in St. Louis for inpatient addiction treatment, but people actually live at its Transitional Housing residences, which is what makes them recovery housing in their own right, separate from the clinical program itself. A subsidized structure keeps the weekly cost low enough that residents can direct income toward savings and stability instead.

Sober Living in the City of St. Louis

St. Louis operates as an independent city, separate from surrounding St. Louis County, and functions as its own county seat for civic purposes. That status concentrates courts, outpatient providers and public transit inside city limits, which matters for a transitional housing resident who is job hunting and attending appointments without reliable transportation of their own.

Certification in Missouri's Voluntary System

Missouri has no law requiring a recovery residence to certify, and the Missouri Department of Mental Health's licensure applies to clinical treatment programs; it does not reach standalone sober housing. The Missouri Coalition of Recovery Support Providers runs the state's voluntary accreditation as its NARR affiliate. A Missouri house not listed with MCRSP has simply not opted into that voluntary program, which says nothing about whether the housing itself is sound.

Applying to Harris House's Transitional Program

Admission runs through Harris House's broader treatment and recovery services, not as a standalone housing application. Anyone considering the program should ask what the year-long timeline requires at each stage, how the subsidy is structured, what employment or program participation is expected, and how the transition to independent housing is supported once the year is up.

ABOUT US Transitional Housing is for people preparing for independent sober living. Our Transitional Housing Level 2 Program provides subsidized housing with separate male and female residences, for graduates of our Transitional Housing Level 1 program. No meals are included, and clients learn to prepare meals for themselves in their residential kitchen. Clients are expected to be employed when they enter this program and meet with their counselor once a month.
