Housing Inside a Structured Recovery Program

Prairie House is where women live while working through Standing by the Door's program, a twelve-step, faith-based track that runs a full six months. The extended length is deliberate: the ministry builds its program around the idea that lasting change takes longer than a typical short-term stay, and housing is provided for the duration of the program.

Classes and Support Alongside Housing

Beyond a place to live, the program includes classes and ongoing support services as part of the same package. Prairie House residents attend those classes together, which builds the household into a working group instead of a set of unrelated roommates sharing a lease.

Taney County's Tourism Economy

Branson sits in Taney County, whose economy is built almost entirely on tourism and entertainment, unlike much of the surrounding Ozarks. Forsyth serves as the county seat. For residents at Prairie House, job openings tend to be seasonal and service-oriented, and the ministry's provided transportation is what makes reaching them realistic without a car.

Prairie House serves women exclusively, one household inside a wider ministry that separates men's and women's housing across its several Branson properties. Keeping the population single-gender lets house rules, meetings and shared space work the same way in every unit the ministry runs.
