About this Sober House

Progress House is a residential sober living program for men on High Street in Amesbury, Massachusetts, in Essex County. Link House, Inc. runs the longer-term housing-stability program for twenty-five men, partly funded through the Massachusetts Department of Public Health's Bureau of Substance Abuse Services.

A Longer-Term Program for Men in Downtown Amesbury

Progress House serves twenty-five men working on their recovery in downtown Amesbury, within walking distance of stores, gyms, a library, banks and restaurants, and a short distance from the Nicholas J. Costello Transportation Center. That access to public transportation matters for residents building toward steady employment.

Thirty Days Sober and a Contract to Stay That Way

Residents must be substance-free for at least thirty days before entry and contract to remain sober throughout their stay. Compared to Link House, Inc.'s namesake program in Newburyport, Progress House sets a lower sobriety bar at entry but expects a longer overall commitment, running up to two years for residents who need it.

Case Management and a Required Job

Progress House combines community peer-support and house meetings with individual case management, and residents are required to obtain employment while living there. That combination of case management and a work requirement positions the program as a bridge back to independent living.

State Funding Through the Bureau of Substance Abuse Services

Like Link House, Inc.'s other residential programs, Progress House is licensed and partially funded through the Massachusetts Department of Public Health's Bureau of Substance Abuse Services, distinct from the Massachusetts Alliance for Sober Housing certification that independent sober houses elsewhere in the state carry.

Link House, Inc.'s Network in Essex County

Progress House is one of four residential programs Link House, Inc. runs across Amesbury, Newburyport and Salisbury. It is the organization's only Amesbury property, giving the network a footprint across three distinct Essex County communities.
