About this Recovery Home
Harvey House is a men's recovery residence in Harvey, Illinois, run by Restoration Ministries. The program is at 253 East 159th Street in Cook County.
A Twelve to Eighteen Month Program for Men
Restoration Ministries runs Harvey House as a Christian-training residential program for men who have struggled with drug and alcohol addiction. The ministry describes it as a twelve to eighteen month program with an emphasis on taking men from maintenance to mission.
What the Program Contains
Restoration Ministries states that through Bible studies, devotionals and counseling, men gain an understanding of Christian doctrine, rebuild family relationships, discover their gifts and learn to disciple others. Men also complete their education and volunteer in the ministry's other programs.
Offered at No Charge to Residents
Restoration Ministries states that there is no charge to live at Harvey House, and describes its residential recovery programs as free and faith-based. Cost is therefore not a condition of entry to this recovery housing.
Entry Requirements
Men eligible for admittance to Harvey House must have a minimum of five to seven days clean time. They must be recommended by the residential staff team, or, if they come from an outside referral, must have a written referral accepted by the admissions board. All men must be willing to submit to random drug testing, and to accept authority and commit to the goal of recovery, restoration, reinstatement and re-entry into positive, productive lives.
The Harvey Campus on 159th Street
Harvey House shares 253 East 159th Street with the Restoration Ministries headquarters. Harvey sits on the Metra Electric District line, which gives the address a rail connection into downtown Chicago.
What Else Restoration Ministries Operates Nearby
Restoration Ministries also runs Tabitha House, its women's recovery program in South Holland, the Harvey Boxing Club and Sullivan Arts Center on Broadway in Harvey, and thrift stores on Dixie Highway in Harvey and West 162nd Street in South Holland.
Faith-Based Recovery Housing in Cook County
Harvey House is explicitly Christian in method. Restoration Ministries frames the program around Christian doctrine, family relationships, personal gifts and discipling others, which makes faith the organizing feature of this Cook County recovery housing rather than an added element.
