About this Recovery Home
Hour House - Women's Halfway and Recovery Home is a sober living home in Charleston, Illinois, at 720 Fourth Street in Coles County.
Women's Recovery Housing on Fourth Street
Hour House records its Women's Halfway and Recovery Home at 720 4th Street in Charleston, a separate address from the men's campus on Division Street. The Fourth Street property offers residential recovery for women, and keeping it at its own address means the women's program is not a wing of the men's one.
Halfway House and Recovery Home as Separate Stages
Hour House publishes women's halfway house services, women's residential services and a women's recovery home as distinct programs. A woman entering at Fourth Street is entering one of those published stages. Naming the stages separately tells a prospective resident that there is somewhere to move to inside the same organization rather than a single undifferentiated placement.
A Nonprofit Rooted in Coles County
Central East Alcoholism and Drug Council, which operates as Hour House, was originally incorporated in 1972 and opened its first facility in 1973. It is a community-based, not-for-profit corporation working across east central Illinois from ten locations, with Charleston as its base.
Accredited and State Licensed
Hour House states that it is accredited through CARF and licensed and funded in whole or in part through the Illinois Department of Human Services Division of Behavioral Health and Recovery, with support from the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration.
Housing for Women With Children
Hour House also runs a recovery home for women with children at 1501 18th Street in Charleston. The organization describes that program as helping residents stabilize sobriety while learning the skills needed to parent, establish employment, learn responsibility in finances and cope with life stress. The organization runs women's residential services in Lerna as well.
Charleston as a Base
Charleston is the Coles County seat and the home of Eastern Illinois University. Mattoon is the county's other city and Lerna is a village within it, while Shelbyville lies to the west in Shelby County. Hour House serves all four communities, which places sober living options in Charleston at the center of the organization's east central Illinois service area.
