Harvey Headquarters and the 159th Street Campus
Restoration Ministries is based at 253 East 159th Street in Harvey, in southern Cook County, where its headquarters and Harvey House share a campus. The 159th Street corridor forms part of the Harvey and South Holland municipal boundary, which is why ministry addresses turn up under both names in public records.
Two Residential Recovery Programs
Harvey House is the men's program at the 159th Street campus. Tabitha House is the women's program, located in South Holland. Restoration Ministries describes both as free faith-based residential recovery programs running twelve to eighteen months.
What the Programs Contain
Harvey House is built on Bible studies, devotionals and counseling, through which the ministry states that men gain an understanding of Christian doctrine, rebuild family relationships, discover their gifts and learn to disciple others. Tabitha House provides counseling, Bible studies and devotions, educational opportunities and job training, and assigns a court advocate to women on probation and to those with children in foster care.
Admission to Either Program
Applicants to both programs must have a minimum of five to seven days clean time, must be willing to submit to random drug testing, and must be willing to accept authority and commit to the goal of recovery, restoration, reinstatement and re-entry into positive, productive lives. For Harvey House the ministry sets a further requirement: a recommendation from the residential staff team, or a written outside referral accepted by the admissions board.
Restoration Ministries Beyond Recovery Housing
The organization runs the Harvey Boxing Club and Sullivan Arts Center at 15331 Broadway in Harvey, a thrift store at 351 West 162nd Street in South Holland and another at 14950 Dixie Highway in Harvey.
Faith-Based Recovery Housing in the South Suburbs
Restoration Ministries is unambiguous that its method is Christian. The ministry states that neither program limits participants by race, color or nationality. Program length, the absence of a charge and an explicit faith commitment are what define this sober living operator's two houses.
