About this Recovery House

Recovery Corner Home is a men's recovery residence on South Congress Avenue in West Palm Beach, Florida, the seat of Palm Beach County. Congress Avenue is one of the county's main north to south arteries, running parallel to Interstate 95 through the heart of the region's recovery housing corridor.

A Men's Recovery Home on the Congress Avenue Corridor

Men live here. Congress Avenue is a practical address for someone without a car: Palm Tran runs it as a primary route, and the businesses, medical offices and retail centers strung along it between Forest Hill Boulevard and Lake Worth Road are within reach on a single bus. Being on an arterial road puts a resident closer to work and appointments than a quieter side street would.

West Palm Beach Recovery Housing at the County Seat

West Palm Beach is where Palm Beach County's public business happens. The main county courthouse, the state attorney's office, the county health department and the largest concentration of outpatient treatment providers in the region are all here, along with the northern terminus of the Tri-Rail line and Brightline's West Palm Beach station. For a man managing probation, a driver's license restoration and an outpatient schedule at the same time, living in the county seat collapses three separate drives into one bus route. Delray Beach and Boynton Beach, two of the densest recovery housing markets in the country, sit fifteen and ten miles south.

Certification and the Florida Sober Living Landscape

Recovery residences in Florida are certified voluntarily through the Florida Association of Recovery Residences, the state's affiliate of the National Alliance for Recovery Residences and the only credentialing entity the Department of Children and Families has approved. A certified house has signed a code of ethics, agreed to disclose fees and rules in writing before move-in, committed to a written relapse and discharge policy, and accepted a complaint process outside the household. Because certification is optional, it is a positive signal where present and no signal at all where absent. Ask the operator where this house stands.

What to Ask Before Applying to This Palm Beach County Sober House

Applications go directly to the operator. The questions that matter are the concrete ones: the weekly fee and what it includes, the deposit and the terms for returning it, how many men share a room, whether a house manager lives on site, the curfew, the testing schedule and the written policy after a relapse. Ask whether medication for opioid use disorder is accepted, and ask which treatment providers and courts the house takes referrals from. Referral relationships tell you how long an operator has been doing this.

More about the sober house Recovery Residences are divided into four levels of support based on the type, intensity, and duration of support that are offered. Level 4 recovery residences have the most structure and are often associated with a substance abuse treatment center program stepping down to a Level 1 which is a residence self-governed by the residents wishing to live in a sober and drug free environment. Recovery Corner is a Level 2 recovery residence. Level 2 residences are noted for their practical, and supportive approach. They provide an increased level of structure and oversight. Level 2 is a supervised level meaning that there are specific policies and procedures in place that outline a structure residents are to work within. Recovery Corner employs a staff that includes a Certified Recovery Residence Administrator, house managers and senior residents. This level is appropriate for the individual who needs a structured and supportive environment within a sober living residence while transitioning back into full independent living. Recovery Corner's residence is based around the 12 steps. It is Recovery Corner's policy that residents work one of the 12 step fellowships while living in the Recovery Corner residence. In addition, Recovery Corner offers a life skills-oriented course in-house to all new residents. The Living Skills Course is provided to the residence free of charge. It is for the development of recovery sustaining activities, like developing a recovery support network, how to set long term and short term goals, employment strategies, self-help and self-care tools. The Living Skills Course shows people new to the recovery life style a road map on how to live a purpose filled life.
