About this Recovery House
Unity Sober Living - Jewell is a certified sober house for men in Lakewood, Colorado, serving Jefferson County. Unity Sober Living operates it alongside six other houses in the Denver metro.
A Men's Sober House in Lakewood, Colorado
Lakewood runs along the western edge of the Denver metropolitan area, the biggest city in Jefferson County and the one that holds most of its employment. County offices and the district court are in Golden, the county seat, a short drive northwest. Belmar and the Union Boulevard corridor carry much of the retail and service hiring, and the W Line light rail links the whole stretch to downtown Denver.
The house serves men only. One gender across the bedrooms, the bathrooms, the common rooms and the weekly meeting means one set of expectations covers everyone under the roof, and nobody is the only man in a mixed building. The street address is not published; placement runs through the operator, which decides which of its houses has an open bed.
Certification Behind This Recovery Housing
Recovery residences in Colorado are certified by an organization the state Behavioral Health Administration has approved for the job. Ohio Recovery Housing - Colorado carries that approval and publishes the statewide directory this residence appears in. What certification buys a resident is specific. The operator agrees to a written code of ethics, discloses fees and house rules before move in, keeps a written policy for what happens after a relapse, and accepts complaints reviewed by someone outside the household. Since House Bill 19-1009, state referrals and state dollars follow that certificate.
Structure and the Weekly Rhythm in This Sober House
Unity Sober Living runs the same expectations at every address, and they are the reason a resident chooses structured recovery housing over a room in a shared rental:
- A minimum of three twelve step meetings each week.
- A weekly house meeting every resident attends.
- Daily check ins with the Unity Sober Living team.
- Community events the houses attend together.
- Unscheduled drug and alcohol screening.
The daily check in is the piece that separates this from a boarding house. Someone talks to every resident every day, which is how a household notices a bad week before it becomes a relapse. Unscheduled screening backs it up, and the twelve step requirement means residents are out of the house and in rooms with other people in recovery several times a week.
Medication Supported Sober Living
The certification directory records this house as supporting medication assisted treatment. Someone prescribed buprenorphine, methadone or naltrexone can keep the medication and the address at the same time, which is not the case at every sober house in the Denver metropolitan area. Losing housing over a prescription is one of the fastest routes back to active use, and a residence that settled the question in its certification file has settled it for every applicant. The alternative is a decision taken at the door by whoever is on shift that day.
What to Ask Before Moving Into This Sober House
Certification obliges written answers to all of these before a resident signs anything:
- What the fee includes and whether utilities and internet are part of it.
- Who is on site overnight.
- How the house handles a resident who relapses.
- Whether medication is stored centrally or kept by the resident.
- How a complaint gets past the house to the operator and the certifying body.
Our Process
We are a 12-step based program that is rooted in the principles behind 12-step programs & active participation in this community is required.
Our goal is to help our residents recover from their addiction through a program built on unity.
Unity prides itself on having strength in numbers. Our homes include on-site house managers who provide oversight in the home as well as advice and support when needed.
The residents we serve are never alone and are required to walk this journey of recovery with other residents. We have 2 house meetings weekly to check in with residents, and all residents are drug and alcohol tested to live in the home.
