Three Homes for Women

Every Timberline Recovery Homes house serves women, and the three sit in three different Providence County towns. Grace Cottage covers Woonsocket in the state's northern corner. Women of Grace serves North Smithfield. Grateful Hearts is the Providence house. The Rhode Island Behavioral Health Open Beds registry, run by the state, carries a separate Timberline Recovery Homes provider entry for each of the three cities.

Timberline Recovery Homes builds its houses on the four concepts SAMHSA identifies as central to wellbeing: health, home, community and purpose. The provider treats a stable and safe home as the precondition for the rest, which is a plain statement of what recovery housing is supposed to do.

What Residents Are Asked to Do

Timberline Recovery Homes sets a clear set of obligations. Every resident attends an intensive outpatient program, secures employment or volunteers, and takes part in twelve-step meetings or another pathway that supports her recovery. Each house has a live-in house manager and an in-house peer support specialist to help residents work through immediate and longer-term recovery goals.

Living as a Family Unit

Timberline Recovery Homes describes its houses as running like a family unit. Bedrooms and shared space are kept in order, each resident carries a house chore, and everyone attends a weekly house meeting. Women from the surrounding community come into the houses to speak about recovery, and the provider organizes shared meals, film nights and group activities so residents build real connections with the women they live with. Timberline Recovery Homes states that it expects residents to treat one another with kindness and respect, and that it embraces diversity and promotes equality.

Certification Across the Timberline Recovery Homes Network

RICARES certifies all three Timberline Recovery Homes residences at NARR Level 2, each as women's housing. RICARES is both Rhode Island's NARR affiliate and its state-designated certifier. The 2020 Rhode Island BHDDH public recovery housing list already recorded Grace Cottage and Grateful Hearts, so two of the three houses have been running for at least six years.
