About The Freedom House Inc.
The Freedom House Inc. is a nonprofit sober living operator in Fort Wayne, Indiana, running a men's halfway house program in Allen County since 1988.
A Fort Wayne Halfway House Operator
The Freedom House began with a single building on Walnut Street and has grown to six properties on Walnut and Fox streets, all working under one set of rules and one staff. The organization's main house, built in 2004, serves as both the administrative office and the entry point for every new resident before anyone moves to one of the other five properties.
A Faith-Neutral, 12-Step Foundation
The program is built around 12-step recovery, requiring ninety meetings in the first ninety days and at least four meetings a week afterward, with no restriction on race, ethnicity, creed, disability or sexual orientation for admission. Referrals come primarily from residential treatment programs, detox units, hospitals and the courts, and the organization has an established relationship with drug court programs across northeast Indiana.
A Six-Month Minimum Commitment
The Freedom House asks for a minimum six-month stay, with twelve to eighteen months recommended, reflecting an operator built for a slow, staged recovery. Across all six properties, the organization houses roughly twenty-five men at any time.
The Lowest-Cost Option in the City
At $150 a week including five prepared meals, The Freedom House markets itself as the most affordable halfway house option in Fort Wayne, offsetting the low rate through fundraising events and grants.
Serving Northeast Indiana
Fort Wayne is the seat of Allen County and the largest city in northeast Indiana, and The Freedom House's decades-long relationships with the region's drug courts and treatment centers give it a steady referral base across the area.
