Rogers Home for Sober Living
About Rogers Home for Sober Living
Rogers Home for Sober Living is a nonprofit recovery housing provider in Rhode Island, running men's sober homes in Pawtucket, Wakefield and Warwick.
Origins and Nonprofit Status
The first Rogers Home for Sober Living recovery home opened in South Providence in 2004. The organization is an official 501(c)(3) and states that it operates at cost, positioning itself against the pricing of commercial facilities.
The Rogers Home Program
Rogers Home for Sober Living builds its program on four parts: housing, recovery coaching, case management and employment assistance. A new resident meets the executive director, agrees a direction for the next eight to ten months, and signs a recovery contract that sets out both the commitment and the payment schedule. Study materials come with entry, and residents take part in weekly group sessions before they begin scheduled activities outside the house.
Case Management That Reaches Outside the House
The case management side handles what Rogers Home calls the outside stuff. Notarized proof of residency letters are provided on request. Letters go to the Department of Human Services for food vouchers. Progress reports are presented to parole and probation officers. Employment support covers resume review, job search guidance and introductions through the organization's network of local business contacts.
Rogers Home Sober Homes Across Three Counties
Rogers Home for Sober Living operates in Pawtucket in Providence County, at 28 Columbia Street in Wakefield in Washington County, and at 140 Norwood Avenue in Warwick in Kent County. That spread is unusual for an operator of this size, and it lets a resident move between the northern cities and the southern coast while staying inside one organization.
Philosophy
Rogers Home states its philosophy as six words: respect, opportunity, gratitude, equality, responsibility and sobriety. The organization frames community as the mechanism, encouraging residents to become productive members of the neighborhoods around each house.
