About River Sober Living

River Sober Living is a sober living operator based in Boise, Idaho, running four men's recovery homes across the Treasure Valley. The program is zero tolerance at every address, and the operator answers from an office on West Brookview Court in west Boise.

A Treasure Valley Recovery Housing Provider

River Sober Living is a housing organization. It supplies structure, peer accountability and a stable address, and the clinical work happens elsewhere. Most Idaho recovery housing providers leave the clinical connections to the resident to chase down. This operator has built two of them in, which is covered further down. The operator's own job is to keep four houses sound, the fees predictable and the rules identical from one door to the next, and that consistency is what a resident notices when he moves between them.

Four Men's Sober Houses in Ada County

The operator publishes four houses:

  • Jesse House, on West Nannyberry Street in Kuna, for men.
  • The Uncle Mike House, on West Brookview Court in Boise, for men.
  • The Tyson House, on West Avanti Drive in Boise, for men.
  • The Blake House, in Meridian, for men.

Two sit in Boise, one in Kuna at the southern edge of the valley, and one in Meridian between the two. The cluster is tight, and that has a direct effect on a resident: changing houses leaves the county, the job market and the outpatient providers unchanged.

Serving Men in Recovery Only

Every River Sober Living house is a men's house. A single-gender operator can write one set of rules, run one kind of household and keep expectations uniform across four addresses, and nobody ends up the only man in a mixed building. It also narrows who the operator can help, and a family looking for women's recovery housing in the Treasure Valley needs a different provider.

Therapy and Chiropractic Care Built Into These Recovery Homes

Two outside providers work with residents at no charge to them. Family and individual therapy comes through S.T.A.R.R. Family Behavioral Health. Chiropractic care comes through Idaho Wellness Clinic. Idaho obliges a recovery residence to arrange neither, and most do not. Building them in addresses the two failures that end placements quietly: a resident who never gets to a therapist, and a resident whose back or neck stops him working. The operator also publishes a calendar of resident events, so a week in any of the four houses has fixed points in it.

Zero Tolerance as an Operating Rule for These Sober Homes

The program is zero tolerance. Drinking or using ends a stay. That is a real decision point for a man choosing housing, and it should be understood before an application, not after. Operators differ sharply on this, and neither approach is wrong; they suit different people at different stages. What matters is that this operator applies the same rule at all four addresses, so a resident is not learning a new standard when he transfers.

What Certification Would Mean for an Idaho Sober Living Operator

Idaho has no certifying body for recovery residences. There is no registry, no published levels, and no state affiliate of the National Alliance for Recovery Residences, whose standards are the reference point in states that do certify. So no Idaho operator can show a certificate, and none can be faulted for lacking one. The questions that certification would otherwise answer fall to the applicant: how long the operator has housed residents in the valley, whether treatment providers and recovery centers refer to it, how fees and deposits are documented and returned, and how a complaint gets past the house manager to the people who own the program.

One Application Across Several Sober Houses

Applications go to River Sober Living, which places men across all four houses. That is the practical case for a multi-house operator over a standalone sober home. A man applying in Boise is considered for either Boise house, and a job in Kuna or Meridian can be followed without a new application or a new set of rules. Idaho's Department of Health and Welfare lists the licensed treatment providers operating across the state.
