About this Recovery House

The Blake House is a men's sober living home in Meridian, Idaho, in Ada County, operated by River Sober Living. It is one of four men's houses the operator runs across the Treasure Valley and the only one in Meridian.

A Men's Sober House in Meridian

Meridian is the second largest city in Idaho and it sits directly between Boise and Nampa on the Interstate 84 corridor. That position is the argument for a sober house here. A resident can take work in either metro without moving, and the medical, retail and warehouse employers clustered along Eagle Road and Franklin Road hire year round. Valley Regional Transit connects the city to downtown Boise, and Boise, the county seat, is close enough that a court date or an outpatient appointment there is a short trip.

How This Meridian Recovery Home Is Run

River Sober Living runs its houses on a zero tolerance policy. Drinking or using ends a resident's stay, and that line is the same at every address the operator holds. Residents get a published calendar of events, free family and individual therapy through S.T.A.R.R. Family Behavioral Health, and free chiropractic care through Idaho Wellness Clinic. Those two provider arrangements are unusual in Idaho recovery housing, where most houses hand a resident a list of phone numbers and leave the rest to him.

Applying to This Meridian Sober Living Home

The street address of this house is not published, and placement runs through River Sober Living, which decides which of its four houses a man is placed in. Anyone applying should ask to see the house before committing, ask what the weekly fee is and what it covers, and ask how many men share a bedroom. Ask what the first thirty days require, whether work or meeting attendance is checked, and whether medication for opioid use disorder is accepted.

Idaho Sober Living Without a Certifying Body

Idaho has no state certifying body for recovery residences, no registry and no published levels, and no affiliate of the National Alliance for Recovery Residences operates in the state. A house in Meridian holds no certificate because none exists to hold, and a house missing from a list is not a house with a problem, since Idaho keeps no list. The operator's own written policies are therefore the only standard in play, and a resident is entitled to read them before he signs.

Meridian Recovery Housing in Ada County

Ada County holds the largest concentration of recovery housing in Idaho, and almost all of it is in Boise. Meridian's share is small, which makes a men's house here worth knowing about for a resident whose job, family or children are on this side of the county. Boise is the county seat, so the courthouse, the drug and mental health courts and the deepest pool of outpatient providers are a short drive east, and St. Luke's Meridian Medical Center is in the city itself.

The Other River Sober Living Sober Houses

Three more men's houses carry the same name and the same program: Jesse House in Kuna, and the Uncle Mike House and the Tyson House in Boise. A resident who needs to move nearer to work or further from an old neighborhood can transfer inside the operator without restarting an application. Idaho's Department of Health and Welfare handles the state's behavioral health provider network.
