About OneHeart
OneHeart is a coed recovery housing operator in Rapid City, South Dakota, on Kansas City Street in Pennington County.
A Sober Living Operator Built on a Converted Campus
The organization operates a campus that opened to its first residents in 2021 and now spans most of the 100 to 300 blocks of the street it sits on. Former university dormitories were converted into three residential towers: one for men, one for women, and a four story tower of studio apartments for families. A Main Provider Building holds offices, classrooms and consultation space for the whole campus.
A Recovery Housing Provider With Cultural Programming
Grounds work on the campus included a sweat lodge and classroom, giving Native residents access to cultural programming that is otherwise hard to find inside recovery housing. Building that in from the start signals an organization thinking beyond a bed and a curfew.
Services Co-Located With This Recovery Housing Campus
The operator brings services onto its own campus, keeping residents from having to travel across the city to reach them. That cuts down on the transportation barrier that derails a lot of recovery plans elsewhere.
What to Ask This Sober Living Operator
Ask which services actually operate on campus versus which still require travel, how the family tower is staffed compared to the men's and women's towers, and how the cultural programming is scheduled and staffed. Those questions concern the organization's campus design.
