Mastermind Recovery

About Mastermind Recovery

Mastermind Recovery is a faith-based sober living operator in San Antonio, Texas, running certified recovery homes there and in the Dallas area, pairing housing with physician-led clinical care.

A Physician-Founded Recovery Housing Provider

Mastermind Recovery was founded by Femi Popoola, MD, a psychiatrist and Navy veteran, together with Dr. Oluwole Popoola, an addiction medicine specialist. Both are pastors, and the organization describes its work as motivated by Christian faith. That founding shapes what the operator adds beyond a roof and a set of house rules: outreach, case management, recovery groups and supported employment sit alongside the housing itself, and clinical care includes physician-led dual diagnosis psychiatric treatment, talk therapy and free basic dental care.

Seven TROHN-Certified Sober Homes

Mastermind Recovery holds Level II certification from the Texas Recovery Oriented Housing Network across seven houses:

  • Esthers House, Faith House and Noahs Ark, women's homes in San Antonio.
  • Evers House, Liberty House and Lions Den, men's homes in San Antonio.
  • New Life House, a men's home in Richardson.

Six of the seven sit in San Antonio, with the seventh in Richardson, in the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex. That matches the two cities the operator names on its own site as where it works.

Separate Housing for Men and Women

Every Mastermind Recovery house is single-gender, split evenly across the San Antonio cluster: three women's homes and three men's homes. A resident applies to one household of their own gender, and moving between houses within the operator, if it ever comes up, stays inside that same split.

Clinical Care Built Into the Program

Mastermind Recovery's clinical offering, physician-led psychiatric treatment for dual diagnosis, talk therapy and basic dental care, is unusual among sober living operators, most of whom refer residents out for anything beyond housing and peer support. A resident carrying an untreated mental health condition alongside a substance use disorder has a harder time in ordinary sober living, and an operator with in-house psychiatric access removes one of the more common reasons a placement fails.

Recovery Housing for San Antonio and North Texas

The San Antonio cluster gives the operator a base in Bexar County, the state's second-largest metro, while the Richardson house extends its reach into the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex. Anyone comparing certified, faith-motivated sober housing across those two regions is looking at one of the larger single operators in the state: seven certified houses is a meaningful footprint in a market made up mostly of single-address providers.
