HAWC Foundation
About HAWC Foundation
HAWC Foundation is a sober living operator in Huntington, West Virginia, running certified recovery housing across Cabell County. The organization works under the Huntington Addiction Wellness Center name and maintains one of the largest single-city portfolios of certified recovery residences in the state, with ten addresses spread through the numbered avenues on Huntington's east and west ends.
A Huntington Recovery Housing Provider
HAWC is a housing organization, and clinical treatment comes from providers elsewhere in the city. What the foundation supplies is an address, a set of expectations that stay the same from house to house, and a route through the program. Residents keep their own prescribers and their own meetings. Huntington has more outpatient capacity than any city its size in West Virginia, and the foundation's job is to keep people housed long enough to use it.
Phased Sober Living Across Ten Addresses
The portfolio is organized in phases. Phase 1 is the entry point, Phase 2 residences accept graduates of Phase 1, and Phase 3 residences accept graduates of both. Moving through the phases means moving house, and every move stays inside Huntington. The practical effect is that a resident's transit routes, job, prescriber and meeting schedule survive a change of address.
- Phase 2 men's houses on 5th Avenue and 6th Avenue.
- A Phase 2 women's house on 5th Avenue.
- A Phase 2 coed residence on Artisan Avenue.
- Phase 3 coed residences on 4th Avenue, 6th Avenue, 9th Avenue, 10th Avenue and South High Street.
Medication Support Across the HAWC Recovery Homes
Every certified HAWC residence accepts residents taking Vivitrol, Sublocade, Suboxone or methadone. That is a deliberate portfolio-wide position. Cabell County has carried some of the heaviest overdose numbers in the country, and a recovery home that turns away someone on a prescribed medication for opioid use disorder pushes that person toward losing both the housing and the medicine. Huntington runs a methadone clinic and several buprenorphine prescribers inside the city, so the policy is usable in practice.
Serving Men and Women in Cabell County
The foundation runs single-gender houses and coed houses side by side. Men in Phase 2 apply to the 5th Avenue or 6th Avenue residences, women to the 5th Avenue women's house, and the Phase 3 addresses take both. Capacity per house runs small, from two beds in a shared apartment to twenty-four in the largest men's residence, which lets the foundation place someone in a household that fits.
WVARR Certification and the Huntington Sober Living Market
All ten residences hold certification through the West Virginia Alliance of Recovery Residences, the state's affiliate of the National Alliance for Recovery Residences. Certification is granted address by address, so an operator carrying it across every property it runs has put its whole portfolio inside a published code of ethics, a written fee and rule disclosure requirement, and a complaint process that sits outside the house. In a city with as much recovery housing as Huntington, that record is what separates a certified residence from a rooming house.
