Amethyst Place

About Amethyst Place

Amethyst Place is a recovery housing operator in Kansas City, Missouri, serving single mothers and their children in Jackson County. Founded in 2000, the organization has grown into a supportive housing program built specifically around family recovery, housing mothers and children together instead of individual residents.

A Kansas City Housing Provider for Mothers and Children

Amethyst Place houses single mothers, most of them in early recovery from substance use, together with their children, not separating families during treatment and reentry. The organization runs 68 fully furnished apartments, giving each family its own unit instead of a shared bedroom arrangement.

Recovery, Reunification and Family Stability

The organization states its mission as inspiring transformational healing and empowering women and children to achieve recovery, reunification and resilience. Many mothers arrive unhoused, with children already in foster care, and the program's structure is built around reuniting families and keeping them together once reunification happens.

Three Integrated Programs

Amethyst Place combines a Supportive Housing Program with a Family Empowerment Program focused on educational and financial goals and a Therapeutic Support Program addressing trauma and mental health. Housing alone does not carry the model; the three programs run together for each family.

Serving Jackson County Since 2000

Over more than two decades, Amethyst Place reports serving over 437 families and 851 children, with roughly 300 women and children served annually. That scale makes it one of the more established family-focused recovery housing providers in the Kansas City area.

Reaching Amethyst Place

Referrals and applications go through the organization directly. Questions worth asking include how the apartment-based model differs from a traditional sober house, what the Family Empowerment Program requires of a resident, and how long a typical stay runs before a family moves toward independent housing.
