4D Recovery
About 4D Recovery
4D Recovery is a sober living operator and recovery community organization in Portland, Oregon, providing recovery housing and peer support built specifically for young people across Multnomah County and six other Oregon communities.
A Recovery Housing Provider for Young People
Most recovery housing is built for a general adult population and works best for people in their thirties and forties. 4D Recovery was designed around adolescents and young adults, and every part of the model follows from that. Its Portland housing includes men's and women's residences, a forty-unit complex, and beds reserved for young adults between eighteen and twenty-five. Age-specific placement is the mechanism: a young resident living among peers who are working out the same problems at the same stage stays longer, and staying longer is the only thing that gives the rest of the program time to work.
Peer Support Alongside the Sober Homes
The organization is a recovery community organization first, and the housing sits inside a wider set of services. It runs free drop-in recovery centers where young people connect, build community and explore recovery with peer support and recovery coaching, and it provides outpatient and intensive outpatient treatment with same-day assessments. It also operates adolescent and family services and a separate youth and family recovery campus. A resident therefore has somewhere to be during the day, a recovery coach who is not also the landlord, and a clinical option under the same organization, which is a different arrangement from a company whose only product is a bed.
Serving Portland, Salem, Medford, Bend and Vancouver
4D Recovery operates sites in the Portland metro, Gresham, Clackamas, Hillsboro, Salem, Medford, Bend and Vancouver, Washington. That reach is unusual for an Oregon recovery organization and it has a specific value for families. A young person from central or southern Oregon can enter housing in Portland while the family works with a local office of the same organization at home, and a resident who moves for work or school can often stay inside the same system. Statewide coverage also means referrals from treatment programs outside the metro do not require a family to research a provider they have never heard of.
Recovery Homes for Men and Women
The Portland housing includes separate men's and women's residences. Single gender housing settles the questions that come up fastest in a young adult house: sleeping arrangements, bathrooms, and whether house meetings can address what they need to address. Running both means a referring counselor is not choosing between the right age fit and the right gender fit.
Oregon Sober Living Certification and Evaluating This Operator
Oregon does not license recovery residences, and accreditation through the Mental Health & Addiction Certification Board of Oregon, the state affiliate of the National Alliance for Recovery Residences, is voluntary and granted at the organization level. Families comparing options for a young adult should ask the operator directly: what the monthly rate covers and what the deposit terms are, how house rules and drug testing work, what happens after a relapse, whether medication for opioid use disorder is accepted, how staff are trained and supervised, and how a family raises a concern above the house. A nonprofit provider with a published financial record should be able to answer all of it.
