It is voluntary, self-attested, and it carries no inspection, no license and no state endorsement. It is a disclosure, and a checkable one.
Certified on Six of the Eight Onyx Sober Homes
Six of the eight residences Onyx Sober Living runs carry certification from the Wisconsin Association of Sober Housing, the state's affiliate of the National Alliance for Recovery Residences. Wisconsin certifies a residence and never a company, so that certification sits on those six addresses. It still tells an applicant something about this one. The standards the certifying body checks, a published code of ethics, fee and rule disclosure before move-in and an external complaint route, are standards this operator has already agreed to live under six times over.
Small Town Sober Living in the St. Croix Valley
Somerset sits in St. Croix County, seated at Hudson, in the valley that borders Minnesota along the river. Onyx 410 is the other Somerset residence. The rest of the network is in New Richmond, where three houses operate, in Menomonie in Dunn County, where there are two, and in Amery in Polk County, where there is one. Applications for any of them go through Onyx Sober Living, so a resident who is a poor fit for one address is considered for seven others in the same corner of the state.
