About this Recovery Home

Next Journey - Chambers 2 - Men's is a men's recovery home on Chambers Street in Norfolk, Virginia, an independent city in Hampton Roads that belongs to no county. Next Journey VA operates it as a certified recovery residence at Level of Support 2, in DBHDS Region 5.

The Second Men's Sober House on the Block

This is one of two certified men's houses the operator runs on Chambers Street, a few doors apart in eastern Norfolk. Two households on one block is a deliberate arrangement. It lets an operator move a resident who is doing well into a quieter house, or separate two residents who should not be under one roof, without anybody losing a job, a bus route or a treatment appointment. Each address holds its own certification and its own register row.

Level 2 Recovery Housing and the Daily Expectations

Virginia grades certified residences one to three, and Level of Support 2 is the Monitored tier. Residents live in a peer-based household with written rules, house meetings and a manager who answers for the property. Sobriety is expected, and so is daytime activity, whether that is work, school or an outpatient schedule. Clinical care stays with outside providers, so residents keep their own prescribers. Nobody supervises the house around the clock, which is exactly what separates this level from a treatment facility.

What the State Register Establishes About This Sober House

Virginia does not treat certification as optional. Operating an uncertified recovery residence is a criminal offense under state law, and the Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Services publishes a fresh list of certified residences each month. This address appears on it, accredited by VARR, serving men. Behind the entry sit obligations a resident can hold the house to: written fees and rules before move-in, a written relapse and discharge policy, a code of ethics, and outside review of complaints.

Sober Living in Norfolk, Virginia

Norfolk is an independent city and the anchor of Hampton Roads, with Naval Station Norfolk, the port, two universities and the Sentara medical campuses inside its limits. Hampton Roads Transit buses and the Tide light rail cover the corridors residents need, and the Norfolk Community Services Board and the city courts sit in the same jurisdiction. For a man in his first months out of treatment, that combination of transit, work and appointment access is worth more than the particulars of any single street.
