About this Recovery Home
The Nest is a women's sober house on North Royal Avenue in Front Royal, Virginia, the seat of Warren County at the northern end of the Shenandoah Valley. The Warren Coalition runs it as a certified Level Two recovery residence for women, accredited through the Virginia Association of Recovery Residences.
A Six-Bed Women's Sober House in Front Royal
Six women live here, two to a bedroom, with a house manager who is also a Peer Recovery Specialist living on site. Rent is $232 a week and the operator states that the figure covers the manager's salary along with the bed. The average stay runs six to nine months. A six-bed household is small by any standard in this field, and the scale is the point: the manager knows every resident, house conflicts get settled in person, and a new arrival is one of six people instead of one of thirty.
What the Nest Requires of Residents in Recovery Housing
The conditions for moving in and staying are published, and they are the same four the Coalition applies across its houses: continue with outpatient treatment, which may include Medication Assisted Recovery, Alcoholics Anonymous, Narcotics Anonymous or counseling; arrive on a referral from a treatment facility; comply with regular drug screening; and obtain and hold employment. Previous treatment is strongly encouraged. Women referred by drug court are handled case by case. Between them, the referral and employment conditions mean everyone in the household is coming from somewhere and going somewhere during the day.
Medication Assisted Recovery and Women's Sober Living
Naming Medication Assisted Recovery as an acceptable form of continuing treatment settles a question that costs women housing elsewhere. A resident on prescribed buprenorphine or methadone is not choosing between her medication and her address here. For someone leaving a treatment program still on a prescription, that single line is often the deciding factor between two otherwise similar houses.
Downtown Front Royal and Daily Life in This Recovery Home
The house is within walking distance of downtown Front Royal, which in a town of this size means the pharmacy, the shops, the courthouse and most of the employment are reachable on foot. Common areas include a kitchen and a gathering space with a television, security cameras are installed, and in-house group meetings are held on site. The Coalition adds transportation as available to work and medical appointments, assistance with job placement and resume building, counseling with a substance misuse counselor, a Peer Recovery Specialist on site, and group excursions and activities.
Certified Level Two Sober Living in Warren County
Virginia requires certification of recovery residences and makes operating without it a Class 1 misdemeanor under Va. Code 37.2-431.1. The state's register of certified residences lists this address at Level of Support 2, the monitored tier, which describes exactly the arrangement the operator publishes: written rules and a live-in manager, with treatment and prescribing handled by outside providers. Certification also obliges written fee disclosure before move-in, a written relapse and discharge policy, and a complaint process that reaches past the house.
The Warren Coalition as a Sober Living Operator
The Coalition is a countywide prevention and recovery organization that has worked in Warren County for three decades, and the recovery houses are one part of it. It also runs peer recovery services, substance misuse assessment and treatment, reentry services at the regional jail serving Rappahannock, Shenandoah and Warren counties, and youth prevention programming. Three certified residences carry its name in Front Royal, and this is the only one for women. Applications go to the organization.
