About this Recovery Home

Power House Recovery Center is a men's sober living home in Houston, Texas, in Harris County. It occupies two buildings totaling more than 8,000 square feet on Runyan Avenue, and it is owned and run as a nonprofit built around the original Big Book twelve-step program.

A Men's Sober House on Runyan Avenue

Power House Recovery Center houses men only, in two buildings on Runyan Avenue with single and shared bedrooms across more than 8,000 square feet of living space. The scale of the property means a resident is spread across two structures with room to have some space.

Twelve-Step Structure at Power House Recovery Center

The program runs on the original Big Book twelve-step model, with regular meetings, recovery presentations, sponsor school, and peer-led activities built into the week. Leadership, including its president, is drawn largely from men who went through the program themselves, which gives the staff running it firsthand knowledge of what a resident is working through.

Amenities Across Two Buildings

Residents have access to a meeting room with a large screen, a pool table and recreation room, a full kitchen, a porch, and a living room with a television. Those common spaces are where a twelve-step-based house does much of its work outside of meetings, since sponsor conversations and peer accountability tend to happen out in shared space.

Weekly Fees and Charitable Support

Weekly fees start at $125, low enough that the organization also accepts charitable contributions to help cover costs. The property itself is owned and leased by an affiliated nonprofit, the Anonymous Alliance of Charitable Organizations, which keeps the real estate inside the same charitable structure as the program running on top of it.

Harris County Recovery Housing Northeast of Downtown Houston

Houston is the seat of Harris County, and Runyan Avenue sits on the city's northeast side, within reach of the county's courts, outpatient providers, and the entry-level job market that a twelve-step-based house depends on for its work requirement. A nonprofit structure and a low weekly fee both matter more in this part of the county, where residents are less likely to arrive with savings to draw on.

ABOUT US The Mission of the Power House Recovery Center continues to be: “To offer a spiritually-based 12-step program of recovery, in a supportive sober-living environment, to individuals in recovery from alcoholism or substance abuse.” The name “Power House” is reflective of the intention to provide a house where individuals can find God, or a Higher Power' of their own understanding. Recovery from alcoholism and drug addiction is possible, and the Power House helps residents find the “Power” they need to solve their problem, enables them to achieve sustained recovery and become useful and productive members of society. Special emphasis is placed on serving God and assisting the community.
