About this Recovery Home
Marywood Sober Living House is a men's sober living home in Austin, Texas, in Travis County. It is one of two men's residences run by Higher Plane Sober Living, and by its own description it carries a lighter structure than the operator's other Austin house, Loyola Sober Living House.
A Men's Sober House on Marywood Circle
Marywood Sober Living House sits on Marywood Circle in northeast Austin, inside the 78723 ZIP code that covers much of the city's eastside. It houses men only, and the property includes a living area, kitchen and dining room, bedrooms, and a shared patio and backyard where residents can spend time outside the house itself.
Recovery Coaching and Life Skills at Marywood
Higher Plane Sober Living builds its program around recovery coaching from certified staff and a set of life skills classes covering health and fitness, nutrition, and financial responsibility. Marywood is described by the operator as its lighter-structure house, a step down from the more intensive expectations at its sister property, which makes it a fit for a man who has already built some of that daily routine and needs a stable address more than close supervision.
Certification and What to Ask About It
Certification with the Texas Recovery Oriented Housing Network is voluntary in Texas, and Marywood Sober Living House does not currently appear on that list. Nothing follows from that on its own: most Texas sober homes are privately run and have never applied. Certification is worth asking about because of what it commits a house to in writing, namely a published code of ethics, disclosure of fees and house rules before move-in, and a complaint process that reaches past the house manager. Those are reasonable questions to put to any operator, certified or not.
Travis County Recovery Housing Near Austin's Eastside
Austin is both the capital of Texas and the seat of Travis County, and Marywood Circle sits inside the section of the city most residents call the eastside. Capital Metro's bus network reaches the area, and the corridor around US-183 and Loyola Lane puts outpatient clinics, grocery stores and entry-level employers within a short trip, which matters before a resident has a car of his own.
Choosing Between Higher Plane Sober Living's Two Austin Homes
Higher Plane Sober Living runs a second men's house, Loyola Sober Living House, elsewhere in the same part of Austin, with a more intensive set of expectations built around a faster return to work or school. A man who starts at Marywood and needs more structure, or one at Loyola who is ready for less, can raise it with an operator who already knows him.
ABOUT US
Starting over can be a daunting task for many. Our addiction disrupted our education or created a fractured employment history. We will help you with rebuilding your resume and filling in the gaps in your new life of sober living.
Structure keeps you focused on positive steps and moving forward in sober living. Morning meditation, attending work and school, daily chores and evening reviews add structure. This gives a comfortable and predictable pace to your day.
The twelve steps are more than a program, they are a design for sober living. We have learned to rely on more than ourselves and we live out what we have learned in all our daily actions.
