About this Recovery House
Passages Place is a women's sober living home in Rapid City, South Dakota, in Pennington County, purpose-built to house up to 14 women. The 6,200 square foot residence opened after a ribbon-cutting and replaced a rented five-bedroom house the program had outgrown.
Why This Recovery Home Was Built
Before it opened, the program ran out of a rented house with five bedrooms and two bathrooms, and it was full. The executive director described fielding two or three calls a week from women or agencies needing a bed that did not exist, plus a waiting list of women still months from release. The new building was the answer to a shortage that was turning people away.
Inside This Women's Recovery Residence
The layout puts two women in each bedroom with a shared bath, alongside a kitchen, dining area, common area, meeting room, storage and a garage. Land for the project was donated by the City of Rapid City, and the John T. Vucurevich Foundation and the Sunshine Lady Foundation each contributed 300,000 dollars toward construction.
The Program Attached to This Sober House
Residents follow an 18-month transformation program. Each is paired with a trained volunteer transition coach who works with her alone for the full year, meeting weekly. Expectations include a nightly curfew, shared household maintenance, random drug testing, in-house Bible studies, weekly life skills classes and weekly recovery meetings.
