About this Recovery House
Broadway Recovery Services BRS 1 is a men's sober living home in Youngstown, Ohio, in Mahoning County. It belongs to a portfolio of ten recovery residences run by Broadway Recovery Services, a nonprofit that opened its first house in the city in 2015. BRS 1 sits at the front of that system, in the primary phase where new residents begin.
A Men's Sober House in the Primary Phase
Broadway Recovery Services organizes its housing in three stages. Primary recovery homes come first, satellite houses follow for residents ready to carry more of their own weight, and independent housing closes the sequence with wrap-around support still available afterward. BRS 1 is a primary house, and that placement answers what the first weeks look like: the most structure in the system, and housemates at roughly the same stage of recovery. Men are admitted after completing medical detox or after at least seven days substance-free, and every resident completes a substance use disorder and mental health assessment on arrival.
The First Thirty Days in This Recovery Home
New residents move through a thirty-day blackout period that limits outside contact and adds monitoring while a routine takes hold. At thirty days a resident becomes eligible to mentor newer arrivals, which is how house norms carry from one resident to the next. Employment is expected to come together within sixty to ninety days, and the organization connects residents to local employers. Average length of stay across the program runs about 130 days. The ladder is built to be climbed.
Counseling and Case Management for Residents
Credentialed staff provide peer recovery support, case management, mental health counseling, substance use disorder counseling and community psychiatric supportive treatment. For a man leaving detox with a court date, a missing ID and no prescriber, case management is often the service that matters first. Housing and clinical support sitting under one organization means a resident does not have to assemble that list alone in his first month.
Medication and Co-Occurring Care in Broadway Recovery Housing
Ohio's recovery housing registry records Broadway Recovery Services residences as MAT supported and open to residents with co-occurring mental health and substance use disorders. Acceptance of prescribed medication for opioid use disorder is uneven across sober living, and someone who loses housing over a prescription can lose the medication along with it. Ohio Recovery Housing, the state's affiliate of the National Alliance for Recovery Residences, certifies residences one address at a time and publishes a level for each one.
Recovery Housing in Youngstown and Mahoning County
Youngstown is the seat of Mahoning County, and nearly everything a resident has to reach sits inside the city. The county courthouse, the Mahoning County Mental Health and Recovery Board, Youngstown State University, Mercy Health St. Elizabeth Youngstown Hospital and Northside Medical Center are all within the city limits, and the Western Reserve Transit Authority runs the bus routes between them. A man in early recovery can keep a probation appointment, a counseling session and a shift at work without leaving the county.
Applying to This Youngstown Sober House
Broadway Recovery Services does not publish street addresses for its houses. Placement runs through the organization, starting with an application and a phone interview that assess readiness and fit. Referrals arrive from treatment facilities, hospitals, courts and mental health professionals, and staff work regularly with people on probation or parole and people coming out of homelessness.
